After visiting the Lekurësi Castle, the only thing left to do is admire panoramic views that extend to Corfu and the Greek border. The castle was built in the mid-16th century, during the conquest of the Ottoman Empire. According to scholars, it was once the refuge for a garrison of about two hundred soldiers built by Sultan Suleiman during the period of war with Corfu.

The name Saranda was first mentioned in the early 15th century and comes from this Christian monastery from the Byzantine period: Forty Saints Monastery or Ágii Saránda in Greek. The monastery’s church was the largest basilica in the region. The monastery, which is 40 meters high and 24 meters wide, was built in the 6th century.
